Welcome to the Naruto: Ninja Generation Guide on Jutsu. We hope that this guide can throughly explain how jutsu's work and how they can be affected in a fight, if you have any questions feel free to ask them.

Jutsus are cut up into three basic categories: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and Taijutsu.

Ninjutsu (忍術; Literally meaning "Ninja Techniques") Are techniques that use chakra to let the user perform actions that a normal person would otherwise be unable to do. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and, most of the time, hand seals to be effective. The hands are put in sequence of hand signs that mold and manipulates chakra in the way to perform a jutsu. Additionally, many ninjutsu can be classified as an elemental jutsu, in those cases where a specific element (wind, water, fire, earth, lightning) is used.

Taijutsu (体術; Literally meaning "Body Techniques") is a type of jutsu that usually uses stamina instead of chakra. Taijutsu generally require no hand seals to perform and are quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu.

Genjutsu (幻術; Literally meaning "Illusionary Techniques") are techniques that are used in the same way as ninjutsu, using chakra and hand seals. The difference between the two is that genjutsu creates an illusion; instead of actually attacking the opponents body, Genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus creating a disruption in their senses.

Kenjutsu (剣術; Literally meaning "Sword Technique") Are techniques that require the use of a sword, swords, or bladed weapons. Kenjutsu can be combined with Taijutsu and Ninjutsu to achieve more devastating techniques.

Fūinjutsu (封印術, Sealing Techniques) are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. An imbalance is created when an odd-numbered seal is placed on top of an even-numbered seal and vice-versa.

The shinobi from Uzushiogakure in the Land of Whirlpools were specialists in the art of fūinjutsu, to the point that they were eventually destroyed due to the fear others had of their sealing techniques.
